You are a fool who creates slaves to do your dirty work. A coward and an incompetent, incapable of doing anything on your own. You are not worthy of the lowest pits of Hell!
~ Alucard.
Orders! Give me your orders, my lord! I can kill; without the slightest hesitation, and without the least regret, I can strike someone dead. That is because I am a monster. And you are... Integra. I will stand with guns readied, I will take aim with them. I will load ammo in their magazines, pull back their slides, and I will release their safeties; however, any killing will be done at your will. Now, what will it be? Your orders, Director of Hellsing, Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing?!
~ Alucard to Integra just before fighting Walter.

Alucard, secretly Count Dracula, is the main protagonist of anime/manga series Hellsing. He is a powerful vampire who obtained his powers after drinking blood from a battlefield. After a few centuries, he was defeated by Abraham Van Helsing, who tamed him into his family servant.

During the events of Hellsing Ultimate, he helps the Hellsing Organization to defeat the Nazi vampires of Millennium and the crusaders of the Iscariot Organization. Despite being considered an anti-hero he has committed many horrible acts during his days as Count Dracula, and even in the present has no problems in committing several vile acts without remorse.

He was voiced by Jôji Nakata in Japanese and Crispin Freeman in English.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Before his transformation to a vampire, he led many wars against the Turks. During these wars, he would often kill his enemies via impalement to strike fear into the hearts of the Turks.
  • Though he claimed to be fighting in the name of God and to take down New Jerusalem, in truth he was fighting out of hatred for those who wronged him in the past, something which Alucard would acknowledge later in his life.
  • His war against the Turks ended up getting his people, his friends, and his family killed in the conflicts.
  • Just before being beheaded, rather than accept his death and defeat, he chose to drink blood and become a vampire, going against God due to believing God abandoned him and blaming him for his downfall.
  • As Count Dracula, he slaughtered a myriad of people and absorbed their souls, including his own army. The effects of this are seen during the battle of London, as Alucard uses their souls to defeat the Iscariot and Millennium.
  • When fighting against vampires, he often prolongs their suffering and kills them in a painful fashion, such as having Luke Valentine devoured by the Baskerville, shooting Leif multiple times before stabbing him, and stabbing Rip Van Winkle with her own gun while biting her neck. While it's hard to feel sympathy for them due to them all being blood-thirsty monsters, the manner in which Alucard kills them is still extremely violent and terrifying.
  • He shoots through Seras in order to kill the Cheddar Priest, and while necessary, it still nearly kills her.
  • He initially treats Seras disrespectfully, refusing to call her by her name and instead referring to her as "police girl" due to her not drinking blood and becoming a true vampire.
  • When he meets the Wild Geese mercenaries, he scares them by appearing through a wall and calls them all a pathetic bunch of sniveling cowards.
  • He threatens to kill Maxwell for calling Integra a sow. While Maxwell is an asshole, this seems a disproportionate retribution.
  • In Brazil, he sadistically kills many SWAT officers. While his first kills were in self-defense, he later kills many of them when they were retreating without remorse, even having some of their bodies impaled through flag poles, though this was done under orders of Integra.
  • After killing Rip Van Winkle, he begins sadistically and maniacally laughing.
  • During his fight against Alexander Anderson, he releases his army of familiars against him, indirectly leading to the deaths of several Iscariot Paladins.
  • During his fight against Walter, he tries to absorb the souls of every human who died in London, civilians included.
  • After 30 years, he approaches a sleeping Integra and leans down, apparently with the intention of biting her.

What Makes Him inconsistent?[]

  • He has a tragic past, due to him being sold out by his father to the Turks, where he was raped as a child by an Ottoman sultan.
  • He is On & Off. Although he never changes his lethality and ruthlessness, he also did many heroic deeds:
    • After his defeat by Abraham Van Helsing, he becomes loyal to the Hellsing Organization and helps them to protect England from monsters.
    • He kills several of Millennium's top lieutenants such as Luke Valentine, Tublacain Alhambra, and Rip Van Winkle, severely weakening Millennium.
    • He telepathically communicates with Seras and helps her break free of Zorin Blitz's illusions.
    • He saves Seras from being burned by Anderson's holy flames.
  • He genuinely cares for his Hellsing comrades Seras, Integra and Walter (before his betrayal).
    • He especially cares about Seras, treating her as a daughter figure. Upon reuniting with Seras in London, he affectionately tussles her hair and calls her by her name.
  • There are multiple moments showing he has standards:
    • He only shoots through Seras after confirming she was a virgin, as he was impressed by her refusal to give up even while being hunted by a sadistic vampire and having her friends turned into ghouls and decides to reward her by making her a vampire.
    • He is disgusted by vampires who kill without purpose and openly expressing his contempt for the vampires Leif and Jessica in their slaughter of innocents. He also greatly admires and envies humans for their ability to persevere.
    • When killing the SWAT soldiers, upon seeing one of the soldiers commit suicide instead of fighting him, he is shocked and angered over this, becoming momentarily discouraged.
    • He tries to convince Anderson not to use the Nail of Helena to become a monster, not wanting Anderson to walk down the same path he once did and becomes angered upon seeing Anderson stab himself with the nail.
  • He shows a great sense of honor and is genuinely affable to everyone he respects:
    • He respects the Queen Elizabeth II, insisting that despite her age she remained the same spirited young woman from 50 years ago.
    • He greatly respects Alexander Anderson, openly expressing admiration for his desire to fight Alucard despite being weakened and managing to make his way through Alucard's army of familiars and even tells Anderson he would've allowed Anderson to pierce his heart had he remained human.
    • He is saddened by Anderson self-transformation into a monster, shedding tears over him having made the same mistakes he did, proving he regrets everything he's done. Later he mourns Anderson death, saying "Amen" out of respect for his rival, and is enraged when Walter coldly gave him the coup de grace during his last words.
