They got their weapon. I got cheated out of my childhood.
~ Ace to Batman.

Ace is a minor antagonist in the DC Animated Universe.

She is a metahuman girl with great psychic abilities who was abducted by an early version of Project Cadmus when she was little. Molded into a government living weapon, Ace learned how to use her abilities for the U.S. government's agenda alongside fellow metahumans before the Joker breaks them free, allowing Ace to try to get back at everyone for her suffering.

She was voiced by Hynden Walch, who also voiced Princess Bubblegum.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

Justice League[]

  • Years before the events of the show, when she was just a baby, Ace left her parents in a catatonic state, presumably for life given how they are never mentioned afterwards. While this was likely unintentional, Ace never expresses any explicit remorse for leaving her parents in a fate worse than death.
  • Accepts to assist the Joker in his lunatic scheme to attack Las Vegas, Nevada as part of his Royal Flush Gang to thank him for rescuing her and her fellow metahumans from the government facility where they were being held and trained, in spite that the Joker was targeting several innocents that had nothing to do with her suffering, making her and her classmates accomplices.
  • Starts broadcasting her mental powers under the Joker's indications in live television after the Justice League comes to save Las Vegas and generate high ratings, traumatizing the TV crew members who were shooting her and presumably several viewers from their homes, nearly driving 70% million people insane if Batman hadn't stopped her.
  • Turns against the Joker and leaves him in a catatonic state not out of remorse, but instead for revenge because Batman exposed that the Joker planned to neutralize her with the control collar the U.S. government forced her to wear to keep her powers in check once he got what he wanted (though in all fairness, the Joker deserved it for being Pure Evil, plus it's a perfect karma given that's how he intended to leave several innocents across the country).
  • Walks away from Las Vegas instead of surrendering or apologizing, uncaring of all the damage and trauma she was gonna cause, getting away with her actions in the process.

Justice League Unlimited[]

  • Creates a second Royal Flush Gang, but despite that they didn't wish to play with her like she intended, Ace leaves them to do whatever they want, enabling the new Royal Flush Gang to cause mayhem over the streets until the Justice League Unlimited is called to intervene.
  • Develops an aneurysm that would threaten reality upon her death, but shows no interest in finding a way to not hurt people with it, leading Amanda Waller to instruct the Leaguers present at her fortress to terminate her life before she could kill everyone near.

Comics[]

  • Helps the first Royal Flush Gang into stealing money from several Las Vegas casinos.
  • Tries to employ her mind-warping powers on Steel to make him obey her, only for her plan to backfire due to Steel's mechanical systems overriding her influence.
  • Helps the first Royal Flush Gang into robbing a bank and tries to run away from Red Tornado when he pursues her.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • Plain and simple, Ace is straight-up tragic, as she was essentially robbed of her childhood and experimented since she was a toddler by the U.S. government and the early incarnation of Project Cadmus.
  • Has some insecurities, as she behaves like a little girl in hopes to taking back her lost innocence and wishing for someone to play with her, hence why she picked suspicious individuals like the Joker or even the members of her own Royal Flush Gang out of desperation to have a friend.
  • Is genuinely affable to Batman, out of gratitude for saving her in Las Vegas and then for staying at her side in her final moments before passing away, finding solace on considering him as a friend. Ace also sympathized with Batman over how, like her, he never got to live a proper childhood.
  • She redeems herself in her final moments by fixing all the damage she did as she died.
  • Her death was played for sympathy, and indirectly, was one of the reasons for which Amanda Waller eventually redeemed herself and started Project Batman Beyond to ensure someone compassionate as Batman would always exist to protect the world, setting into motion the events that would culminate with Terry McGinnis taking over the Dark Knight's mantle decades after Bruce was forced to retire due to old age.

Trivia[]

  • Ace is, alongside Baby-Doll, one of the two DC Animated Universe female characters to be Inconsistently Heinous.
